Thespian in the Making

Olivia auditioned for Center Stage's production of Annie at the Covey Center.  She got the part of Molly which was exactly what she was hoping for and is loving all the rehearsals.  Then, after doing two summer camps at Hale Center Theater Orem she had it in her brain that she also really wants to audition for Christmas Carol at the Hale Center Theater Orem.  The Christmas Carol audition required the kids to do a cold reading in a British accent.  She literally was handed a monologue and was expected to read it 5 minutes later in a British accent.  I honestly didn't know how she would do both Christmas Carol and Annie at the same time, but she was so set on auditioning for it.  Since I figured she most likely wouldn't get the part I relented deciding the audition experience was good for her.  But after 5 minutes of reading her monologue her British accent actually sounded pretty good.  She had me a bit worried and did end up getting a call back.  They called back 7 girls for on part they intended to double cast, so once again I felt chances were she wouldn't get it.  She showed me.  She totally got a part as Mary Cratchit in HCTO's Christmas Carol and now we are stuck rehearings for two plays at the same time.  She literally generally had play practice every day of the week from the time she gets home from school until well after bedtime.  However, she seems to be loving all of it.  We got to go into the basement of the Hale Center for first and second fittings of her costume which she thought was a fun experience.


The Christmas Carol show opens in two weeks and she can't wait to perform on their stage.  She will have 25 performances between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  This schedule has definitely kept us busy.  We have somehow managed to do both shows only missing 2 or 3 Annie rehearsals which is pretty good.  We have cut out dance, and voice and are taking December off for the violin and then just managing as best we can with homework and piano.
