The first thing people always say when they see Olivia is that she looks just like Derek. So whenever someone comments on how cute she is, Derek takes this as a personal compliment. However, the other thing people are always telling me is that she looks just like the Gerber baby which always confuses me. (Note recent snap shot above: Liv has been fascinated with climbing into the above little person chair as of late-- and while very cute I don't see the Gerber resemblance--although her hair does usually stand up like that Gerber cartoon when she wakes up from a nap).
The Gerber baby isn't even a real baby. It is just a cartoon on a box! Nonetheless, I seriously get this comment everywhere. The airport, the grocery store, random strangers, drug reps at work who see pictures of Liv hanging up. So, if my baby doesn't look like a girl version of her father she looks like a cartoon? Oh well, I think she is a cute little "Dereka/Gerber baby".
Next, I would like to comment on how today I feel more like I am raising a dog than a child. Twice today when Liv wasn't in eye sight and things got quiet (which I have learned is always a worrisome sign) I found her leaned over the toilet bowl swirling her hands around in the water. This happens almost daily now. And as much as I try to close the seat cover and bathroom doors when not in use, this girl has eyes like a hawk and always notices when I forget. Why are things they know are off limits the most fun to play with?
Her other favorite pastime as of late is playing with mommy's tampons. She knows exactly where I keep them, and the second she gains access into my bathroom she goes straight for that drawer pulls out all the pads and tampons and then proceeds to carry them all over the house. Normally this occurs when I am trying to get ready for the day and since I can usually use the distraction to my advantage I have decided it's easier to just let her play with them than stop and put them away every 5 seconds. However, today she actually removed one of my tampons from the wrapper, and I looked down (when she was awfully quiet again) to see her sucking on the applicator! Great! I think I draw the line there...no more tampons. I need to find a new location where it will not be as convenient for me to get to, but also won't be so convenient for my cute little puppy.
Perhaps my child is acting so much like a dog because she has recently developed a fascination with dogs. Whenever she seems one she says, "Arff! Arff! Arff!" She loves to read books and always wants to turn to the page with a dog and say, "Arff! Arff! Arff!" So cute! But the toilet thing is not so cute!
Last on the agenda, my most recent brag worthy creation: We decorated cupcakes in Young Womens last night. I am quite impressed with myself.
