Mystery Solved!

So Olivia is very rashy. There has been a number of instances where she has broken out in hives. I could never seem to figure out what had caused it. Lately it has only been getting worse and worse. The poor thing would get covered from head to toe in hives at least twice a week and scratch herself to death. She would wake up at night covered in hives just itching. We were going through bottles and bottles of Benadryl. I finally decided that enough was enough and made an appointment with an allergist.

Turns out, she is allergic to peanuts (which I had suspected and have been avoiding). But, she is also allergic to milk and eggs. Milk! I have been literally poisening my poor daughter with milk products all day long. The first thing she wants in the morning when she wakes up is her milk, after her naps she often drinks milk, before bed more milk. One of the six words she can say is cheese. She loves cheese and asks for it all the time. String cheese is a favorite snack. Yogurt- when I can't get her to eat, yogurt was my go to. She loves the stuff. No milk, no yogurt, no cheese, eggs, no ice cream, no whipped cream, NADA!

Poor thing. She keeps walking around asking for cheese and I keep saying no, she doesn't get it. She now drinks vanilla soy milk which she doesn't mind at all. She downs it like its a milkshake. Weirds me out that I have to buy fancy soy milk for our 1 year old. We tried soy cheese just because it broke my heart every time she asked for cheese and I had to say no. She was all excited because it looks just like cheese. She took one bite and spit it out. I tried it. That stuff is vile! London likes it though and happily licked up every piece she threw on the ground.

The allergist says she will likely grow out of the milk and egg allergies by the time she is 2 or 3 or 4 (ugh, but at least there is a potential end). However, he says only 1 in 5 kids grow out of a peanut allergy. Dang it! I'm gonna have one of those kids. We are now the proud owners of an Epipen (which cost $191 and we will probably hopefully never use)! Sadly, Derek and I love nuts and our favorite candies are all the ones with peanut butter (peanut butter M&Ms, Reese's peanut butter cups). People keep bring holiday treats over with nuts and Livie keeps saying "that" and I have to keep saying no. So, because I feel so bad about it I keep giving her marshmallows (no eggs, milk, or nuts in those--just lots of sugar).

Not sure what to feed this girl any more. I swear she only ate like 5 things over and over again. We just cut out half of them! I have been trying to stock up on crackers and such that do not contain nuts, milk, or eggs. Fun times here at the Marshall house. I guess it's good that I now know what she is allergic to, but sometimes I wish I didn't and could just give her a sting cheese when she askes for "cheese" in her cute little 15 month old voice. How do you say no to that? Also soy poop reaks!
