We decided to spend the beginning part of the kids’ Spring Break and also Easter weekend camping in Kodachrome. First time bringing out the trailer for the year. Babi and Papou met us down there and did some glamping in this fancy pants Tentrr. The first night we arrived kind of late in the evening, but to the kids surprise the Easter Bunny had left baskets in the trailer for each of them with fixing for Peeps S’mores, a movie for each of them, and a new card game.
The next morning we woke up and did a nice hike with Panaramic views of Kodachrome.
Kondachrome was a fun state park to camp in. They had games you could rent like this giant jenga set and the game where you throw balls on string onto ladders.
They also had the nicest rain showers. I can’t wait to go back to Kodachrome just to shower in those showers. And in the heat of the afternoon everyone piled into the trailer to watch a movie.
We had a somewhat traditional Easter dinner made possible by the trailer and microwave. We had ham, salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, and potato salad. Afterward we did another cool hike near our campsite. Then, we went over to Babi and Papou’s nice campsite for a fire.
When we got back to our campsite, the Easter Bunny had placed a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt. That was fun and he stuffed the eggs with coins which always excited the kids more than candy it seems.
Sunday morning, Derek made pancakes and each of the kids decorated them like a bunny.
We made one last little stop chimney rock on the way out of the park.
We then said goodbye to Babi and Papou. They headed home and we headed to Escalante state park. It was conference weekend, so we listened to the conferenced talks in the car as we drove. Escalante state park had a gorgeous lake. It was freezing, but the kids jumped in it nonetheless.
We spent the afternoon playing games in the trailer while listening to conference talks. Then we hiked the hills above our campground that were covered with petrified wood and got gorgeous setting sun views over the lake.
And in honor of Easter Sunday we made Easter treats:
The next morning, we packed up early and filled our camelbacks and all embarked on the Lower calf creek falls hike.
It was such a neat hike. Quite hot especially for London and Derek, but they survived.
The hike was quite sandy but had Indian petroglyphs along the way to see, and old Indian cliff graineries.
You hiked through this gorgeous red rock canyon and ended at the most incredible water fall.
The kids all immediately waded in and though the water was freezing it was hard to get the boys out to hike back to the car. I was so proud of the kids they all hiked a total of 6 miles and did amazing. When we got back to our car we were terrified that a car had parked in front and behind us and we would not be able to latch the trailer and get home, but there ended up being just enough room to hitch the trailer to the car sideways and pull out. We drove home on Hway 12/ Boulder Highway which was the more gorgeous drive in and of itself. IT is called an All American Byway which means just the highway is considered a destination to see. We stopped in Torrey for Slackers to Derek’s delight and then drove the rest of the way home.
It was a great little Spring Break get away.
