Olivia's best friend Johanna was gone on a family vacation towards the start of school for quite a few days in a row. After about day 3, Liv came to me with tears in her eyes asking to not have to go to school the next day because she has no one to play with at recess. I decided maybe it was time for her yearly class party. Every year, I let my kids throw a party just because and invite all the girls (or all the boys) in their class over just as a way to get to know their classmates better. Liv liked the idea and decided she wanted to throw a Halloween cookie decorating party.
So we invited all the girls in her class (plus a few others from other classes). We made a disaster of the kitchen. Sooooo many sprinkles everywhere. Then, we played Halloween bingo, bobbed for apples, and had races turning partners into toilet paper mummies.
It was a huge success, but boy was my house destroyed after all that partying. However, totally worth it. I think it totally opened the door to a bunch more fun friendships in her class.
